DALLAS PHOTO SWAP MEET: OCTOBER 24

For one day the studio space at DCP will be stuffed full of photo gear for you to buy or trade. Expect to find the usual and the very unusual on 24 tables of cameras, lenses, lighting, bags, doodads. . . we’re not sure what will show up! If you’ve never been to a photo swap meet then you’ve been missing out!

DCP is hosting this event with help from Don’s Camera, the best used camera store in the region.

Whether you’re a professional dealer, full time photographer or just a hobbyist with a spending habit and a closet full of stuff to get rid of then rent a table and come be a vendor. If you just want to sell or trade a few items you can buy a ticket and see what kind of deal you can make with one of the vendors.

Doors open at 10am and close at 4pm. Entry is $5 cash at the door. Kids 12 and under get in free.

D/FW LF GROUP GRAPEVINE CAMERA SHOW OUTING

We had another outing.  This time breakfast and a camera show in Grapevine, Texas.  Though the show was a little slow this time, you always find something in a box that you just have to go home with.  Susan found a Zone VI viewing filter and in the next box I found one of the original square filters from way back in the early days of Fred Picker.

Bob really wanted this Jobo, but I think someone else ended up with it. . . nice!  Paul found just what he needed for his new darkroom. . . a nice Beseler 45 with a lot of accessories to boot.  Way to go Paul!

THE SHOW RETURNS???

SHOWWe just attended our local Camera Show today. And, I can say that we were pleasantly surprised at the turnout. There were people there! Actually, a lot of people. More than we have seen in several years.<

The local Camera Show scene has dwindled as Internet auctions have taken over the used camera market. We had begun to accept the possibility that apparently all of the dedicated show dealers, and even the local sellers, had stopped attending the shows and relegated all sales to the auction sites. Yet, after today I see what just may be a change in the trend.

It seems that just maybe, people are not as obsessed with the on-line experience as first thought. There is something about being able to touch the merchandise. To be able to see the seller, and the buyer, in person, to be able to haggle face to face. Maybe, just maybe, there is room for both Internet sales and the real, touchy/feely, old-time Camera Show/swap meet. I now feel that though the Camera Show will never be as prevalent as in its heyday, it is not doomed to disappear from the face of the earth. Maybe there is room for both the Camera Show and the Internet?????

I certainly hope so! We buy from the Internet, but we really do enjoy going to a Camera Show and digging through that box on the floor under the table.
